Suicide Rates in Teens

Suicide is on the rise among American teens. Research shows that 1 in 12 high school students have attempted suicide, while 1 in 6 have seriously considered it. Mental health disorders and substance abuse are both risk factors for suicide. Ten percent of drug-related emergency room trips made by adolescents involved suicide attempts. In many cases, ready access to prescription drugs was a contributing factor.
